Meteorologist Chris Tomer
Meteorologist Chris Tomer forecasts weather for KDVR FOX-31 and KWGN Channel 2 in Denver. You can watch Tomer Monday-Friday on Channel 2’s Daybreak morning show from 4:30am-9am.
Tomer earned a B.S. in Meteorology from Valparaiso University graduating with Honors – where he also played basketball. Tomer is a fully certified meteorologist having earned the CBM and NWA Seal’s of Approval. Tomer also serves on the NWA panel of Television Seal evaluators. Chris has specialized knowledge of Mountain Meteorology.
In his free time, Tomer climbs mountains, runs trails, mountain bikes, and snow skis. Tomer climbs all over North and South America. Chris completed climbing all 58 of Colorado’s 14ers in 2009. Many of his adventures are showcased on KDVR/KWGN-TV under the name of “Tomer’s Trails”. Chris won an Emmy Award for his 2015 Tomer’s Trails stories.
Tomer is a bestselling author. He co-authored Sleeping on the Summits: Colorado Fourteener High Bivys. It was a Colorado Bestseller during the summer of 2012, and went on to win two important book awards in 2013 including the Colorado Book Award and IPPY Award. Tomer has also published a peer-reviewed meteorology article in the National Weather Association's Online Journal of Operational Meteorology.
Chris is a sought-after public speaker. His resume includes over 100 visits to Front Range schools, keynote speaking roles at business luncheons, targeted presentations at private companies, private sector forecasting for Vail Resorts Mountain News & OnTheSnow.com, private sector fire weather forecasting, private sector aviation forecasting, master of ceremonies at charity events, book signings, motivational speeches, performance tips for TV and media presentation, and educational workshops at Front Range REI stores.

In the last 15 years, Tomer has worked for over 50 world-wide mountaineering and skiing expeditions with a high success rate. He's worked for climbers and skiers attempting speed records, people climbing their first big peak, and seasoned professionals climbing to new heights. Some of the jobs include Everest, K2, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, Dhaulagiri, Nanga Parbat, Shisha Pangma, Cho Oyo, Cholatse, Mansail, Mustang Himal, Peak Lenin, Denali, Aconcagua, Point 11,300 Alaska, Moose’s Tooth, Mount Hunter, Mount Alberta, and Devil's Thumb. Tomer has also worked for a Science in the Wild expedition in Greenland measuring the Penny Ice Sheet.
